I have a tricky scenario. I have an MSI Nighthawk case with a 200mm x 20mm fan on the side. It makes a little noise during operation I think it's getting old. I'd like to replace it if possible. The only 20mm thick fan I could find was the Aerocool one and the BitFenix one.

However according to this GamersNexus article not all fans have screw holes in the same place. Is this a situation in which I cannot be certain of fan compatibility without buying one and seeing if it fits? Is there a way to figure out screw hole compatibility? Is this article credible?

Thanks Kerberos. Looks like the mounting holes are 145mm apart so the Aerocool won't work. The BitFenix doesn't list it's mounting hole positions. Also the fan that is installed already has model #df2003012semn. Google pulls up some fans but they are all out of stock or 30mm thick. What to do? Any ideas?
