How to find the date a digital photo

hi, a friend of mine sent me a digital photo, and I need to know when, i.e. what date, the photo was actually "taken" not forwarded to me through my cellular phone? Is there any way of me finding out who to find the date of a photo.. it's a .jpeg file?

Right click on the thumbnail photo and select 'Properties' - the details of dates will be displayed.

Some photos will have 'Meta Data' - this will provide more information about the photo.

Some photos have 'Geo tags' - for location where taken.
