I had to reset my PC a couple of weeks ago back to the base settings and reinstall W7 (as it was custom built). all was ok until i had to do the various updates for W7 but i did however manage to get many updates installed. the issue now is that there are around 50 odd updates which when i try to install, the tedious situation where the PC will just say "Failure to configure updates, reverting changes" and it will do this whenever i try to install updates. I'm not sure if there's an issue with just one of the updates which prevents them from installing, or if there's an issue with my PC which is preventing any more updates being installed. anyone got any ideas about this? i've tried several solutions to no avail so far.

Thanks, I'll try this if the problem comes back but in the end I think it might have been as simple as downloading a few at a time, ans finding the specific update that didn't install properly. Thanks

That may be the case. To be honest I've always disabled Windows automatic updates as far back as I can remember.

I've never had a fast enough broadband to allow them (out in the countryside - - only 2Mbits), plus some of the updates can screw Windows up anyway. I always have a strong firewall & av software running (plus hardware firewall in router) and I've never been hacked or infected, not ever.

If I want an update I go to Microsoft's website when it's convenient to me. No regrets with that setup.

Not keen on Windows 10 having no such option to disable them so I won't be taking advantage of the freebie - - download would take forever anyway on my low-end broadband.
