How to format cd/dvd

I am trying to format my Cd/Dvd and get a message it says it cannot finish formatting what do I dd?

Have you tried another brand of rewritable disc?

No, I have not. But the one I am using is a brand new one.

Not all brands of discs are compatible with all drives. Try that first, and if you still have problems it might be a bad drive.
