how to format my sky hard drive to work for my pc.

Im wanting to format the hard drive from my unused sky+ hd box so i can use it to store ip cam footage in my pc.

If this drive will be internal to your pc just let windows format it whatever way it defaults to.

Press windows button,
Right click on computer
press manage,
then disk management on the left column.

FORMATTING HDD:
Right Click On your hdd (in the bottom bar) and click format. ENSURE you use the correct HDD you want to format (wipe).
NOTE: YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON THE HDD.

SETTING UP HDD FOR USE:
Your hard drive should have a black bar (in the horizontal tab below) above it, it is unallocated,
right click on it
and press on extended volume,
don't change any of the values in the menu
and set NTFS as the file system,
it should add a primary partition to the hdd.

Now you have a useable hdd.

Answered this as it is at the top of a google search !!

Disk Management will not work simply because the sky box (amstrad & Samsung) use a propitiatory OS that windows does not recognise. You have to use the windows/dos utility diskpart, list disk, delete volumes. This has to be run from the command prompt.
