How to get dimension 4550 to recognize integrated network adapter

Hello everyone --- I have a Dell Dimension 4550 for which I purchased a new hard drive a few years ago and installed xp os.
I re-installed the xp os from the same resource disks onto the old drive. Everything works fine except the system will not recognize the integrated network adapter.
I chose this arrangement to practice re-installation procedures as well as having the old HD as a ready to go back up. It is not used as a slave, it simply sits in it's station until I decide to change over the connections-- if I can get the LAN to work.

always liked that style of case that dell did

but that does not help you much...

does it show up in the devicemanager

if so

is a good place to start install the corect software and driver see if it will pick it up

if not #

reset bios to defults see if that helps
you could try a bios update if avalible (and you are brave)
