Question How to get m.2 working through a pcie adapter

Im trying to get an m.2 working with a pcie adapter on an older z87 motherboard. I set it up through an m.2 slot on my pc, where it worked fine through through m.2 and the adapter.
When i put it in the x87 system windows (and disk manager) detects it normally but as soon as i try to copy something on i get an MS DOS error, after that i get an error whenever i try to do anything (cmd commands dont work either) and disk manager detects it as RAW
Any idea what the problem might be?
Its just gonna be a storage drive not a boot drive so according to everything i found online it should work without flashing a new bios

What model M.2 drive?
What model PCIE to M.2 adapter? Link to product page?

Can you show screenshot from Disk Management?

Here is the screencap (disk F). This is after ive set it up on my pc, verified its working and then put it in the z87 pc and got the msdos error. Then i put it back on my z97 and took the screencap (its show up the same on both pcs)
The disk is a 1TB Samsung 970 evo
and this is the product page for the adapter

It is not formatted. Format it first.
Right-click on drive F: (in disk management) and choose format.
It gives me a format didnt complete error. I also formated it before through my m.2 slot, it worked but then just gave me the MSDOS error again when i tried to use it on the z87 computer.
Is it possible i have to formate it again on the z87 before i do anything else so it dosent turn it to RAW after i try to copy files and get the error?

If you setup the drive on your Z97 and copy files to it, can you then read these same files on the Z87?

I would examine the drive with a hex editor (eg DMDE) after the MS DOS error, both on the Z87 and on the Z97.
DMDE and Window both give me "A device that does not exist was specified" error after the MS DOS one. I was able to ignore it with dmde but i dont really know how to use it, not sure what the results mean
