I got a new acer monitor h22hql and it looks great but i cant hear anything. Ive strolled through the forums for help but i have yet to find anything that will help. My monitor does not show up in the playback devices list. I would also like to bring up that it is plugged in via HDMI and graphics card. Any ideas?

Thank you for the suggestion but I had tried this before and tried it again and it still did not work. The monitor just wont show up on the playback devices list.

When I tried to update the driver it would just say that the driver was up to date

When you check device manager under monitors, does your monitor show up as generic or as Acer H226HQL? That is where you update the driver but it should also add it automatically to your sound devices. You may need to reboot for it to be seen. The latest updated monitor .inf file is from 4/24/2014 so if that is what you have then it should be working correctly.

in the device manager under monitors it shows a generic monitor not the actual asus monitor

actually now that i checked back it now shows the asus monitor on the playback devices but i still here no sound

Maybe your HDMI cable is bad then. If you have the driver installed and the device chosen as the playback device then you either have a bad cable or you may not be connected to the HD sound pins on your mobo. The only other possibility would be if your port was bad. If you have access to another HDMI cable then that may be something to try.

so apparently even though the monitor has a volume option it does not have any built in speakers

Correct. Depending upon what you are using for graphics, there may be an option to turn on sound going to HDMI there. You would still need a way to hear it though as there are no built in speakers for the monitor.
