How to get more FPS?

hi, should i overclock CPU or GPU to get more FPS for gaming?.

PC Spec :
- Motherboard MSI 970 gaming
- CPU amd fx-8320e (3.2Ghz) auto overclock using OC genie i get 4.0Ghz
- GPU Sapphire R7 370 Nitro
- PSU CX650M
- RAM 16GB
 
Solution
You'll have to determine the bottleneck in your system. Once you've installed the MSI Afterburner software(according to previous suggestions), then check the GPU usage when playing a game. If the GPU usage is above 95%, overclock your GPU. If it's in the <95 range, then overclock your CPU more. You'll probably have to start off with overclocking the CPU, but it can vary from game to game. If the GPU usage is not above 95%, it means the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU, so overclocking the CPU will help. If it is at 95-100% usage, overclocking the GPU will help since it's the limiting factor.

No need to check CPU usages much, they're hardly indicative of anything most of the time.
25 fps is crap you need about 50 for good game play.
you do need to overclock.
1st: Check what is bottelnecking your game. (probbaly it's both)
there is tool called hWD info to monitor those. see what hits' 100% (cpu or gpu)
And at what resolution your playing ?

Lol, how would you assign a % to a bottleneck? Seeing as a bottleneck is completely variable by game, settings & resolution you would need the specific scenario for that to make any sense.
 


Bottleneck Calculator dude.^^ That card is weak regardless of what he tries to play. (Gaming situations only.) Obviously 3D Bench wont affect GPU but in a game like BF4 that card is going to hold him back a good 44% at max load.
 


Seriously? A bottleneck calculator is utter and total bullshit, pardon the language. Bottlenecks are heavily situation dependent, and no 'calculator' can give you an exact percentage of how much a bottleneck there is in a system. Unless the calculator only takes one specific scenario and calculates based on that, which still isn't accurate.

Now, I'm not saying there aren't such calculators, but what I'm saying is that they're useless in real world applications.
 


People take things too seriously. THAT CARD IS THE BOTTLENECK ROUGHLY 44% Not Exactly 44% NOT 44.44444% and certainly not with every game but in a demanding game like BF4 or Crysis that card WILL hold him back. END OF STORY
 


Precisely what I'm saying - that that bottleneck calculator is a rough idea, so whenever using numbers, you must warn people about this, because not everyone understands bottlenecking as well as we here at Tom's Hardware do. People might take that as an established fact and base their decision on your statement that that card is a bottleneck, which would be wrong other than for the specific situation you've mentioned.

Also, no need for caps, let's have a calm discussion rather than losing our minds, please.
 


You cannot assign a % to a bottleneck, it doesn't work that way and doing so just shows a lack of understanding. That site is trying to dumb a complex subject. Lets discuss a i5 7600 & 1080Ti, at 4k there will be no bottleneck in probably any game however at 1080p (144Hz-200Hz monitor) there would be a significant bottleneck in many modern games. Therefore without the exact scenario the % applies too its a meaningless number.
 

Even saying that card is roughly a 44% bottleneck is just wrong. If you turn settings down to low that card I can pretty much guarantee could run BF1 720p 60fps and most likely 1080p 60fps. However a 8320e even with an overclock in large multiplayer maps will not hold 60fps (resolution does not impact CPU load), Id expect dips down 40-50fps or maybe lower.
 
Hi guy. I just found the answer for all of my problem.
I find out that my msi 970 bios is blocking my stock cpu. That is cpu smart protection. Now i disable cpu smart protection and everything goes back to normal. Now i get 50 to 60 fps for gaming. No need to overclock anything furthermore.
