I'll preface this by saying I haven't got a TV or Chromecast as I've just moved out of home again. I also never thought I'd need one for a while because I have a beefy PC (5800X3D, 7900XT) and a 32" 1440p monitor. And headset. If I want to watch movies / TV shows on this thing, there's no reason I shouldn't be able to.
Ironically, most streaming services (Disney+, Apple TV+, Youtube Movies) outright refuse to stream above 720p unless you cast to a TV, which just isn't an option for me. Or I could watch them on my phone, which is just dumb when I have a 32" monitor. Consensus online seems to be this is an effort to prevent their IP getting ripped (although apparently it's not very effective, and the irony is it's frustrating me so much that I've almost considered piracy because I can't watch things I've paid for at full resolution).
Is there some kind of workaround? Some special browser I need to use or some attachment that convinces them to actually stream the content I've paid for, in full resolution? I can't even sit down and rent a movie from YouTube for an evening without it looking like it's being streamed over dial-up.
