Hi. My Google Maps opens up in the wrong location sometimes. I have looked on the net and the only thing I find is:
System > Preferences > Security & Privacy Preferences > Privacy > Location Services.

Can't find that. I know how it is done on a mobile phone.

I suggest you to check if the location is ON on the computer.

Follow these steps to make sure the location service is turned on.

Step 1

Make sure that Allow apps to use my location is turned on.
a. In Search. Type Location.
b. Under Location, check if the Location is Turned ON

Step 2

Change the regional settings and check if the issue persists.
a. Click on Search and typelocation and select Change location.
b. Change the ‘Home location’.

Yes I have done that. Allow apps is on. Set default is correct and google maps has my location correct. Open up google browser. click on maps at the top. I am now in Newcastle not York.

Google maps location is based off of the IP address currently connected. The location of that IP address is taken from the registration information provided by the provider. It was never intended to be an exact location in all cases. There is nothing you can do to change this.

Your phone on the other hand uses GPS.
