Question How to go go about salvaging old data from HDD and SSD

I have some old HDDs and SSDs that are no longer housed in their computers. I'd like to extract data from them and transfer to an external hard drive.

How is the best way to go about this? I've read about data extraction devices and wonder if they work well. If so, does anyone recommend a particular one?

See if the drives can be read at all.

The above one is probably sata only so if you are talking about really old drives make sure to find out if they are sata or the older ide standard and get the appropriate dock.
