I have an iMac that is running Mac OS X Mavericks, and I am wondering, How do I have multiple desktops with different icons on each desktop. I know that you can have multiple desktops, but I want to have multiple desktops because, I like to have one desktop with all my gaming shortcuts, and one with my work programs (MS Word, MS Excel, etc.). Is the only possibility to make a new user for another desktop? or is there a program that can do this?
Thanks If You Can/Try To Help Me! =D

Alright. Icons as in the dock on the bottom/sides? or icons as the floating documents that you pinned there.

Anyway, if it's the dock. What you want to do is right click your icon (thats bottom right on my MacBook pro, it may be different for you.) go under options, and theres should be a "This desktop" option. Just click that.

This should work for most applications. I know for some reason my chrome doesn't have that option, but that may be for other reasons that don't concern your issue.

Hope this solves your problem. Cheers :)

I am almost positive that for the actual icons on the desktop, they show up on all desktops due to the 1 and only "Desktop" folder (you cannot create more.)

If you're happy with my answer, please put me as best solution 😀
