I have an ASUS Q550LF laptop and I am replacing the stock 1TB 5400 RPM HDD with a 500GB Samsung 840 EVO SSD. I am a little confused on how to get Windows 8 on to this new SSD making sure that I still have the recovery partition from the stock HDD. I have read reviews that say the software Samsung provides to clone the HDD to the SSD does not take the recovery partition with it. I need this recovery partition because my computer didn't come with any recovery CD, just the recovery partition.
From what I think I know (correct me if I'm wrong), there is two ways to install this SSD. First way would be to use the cloning software provided by Samsung, which means I need to buy a SATA 3 to USB 3.0 cable. Second way would be to create a system image and save it to an external HDD, Flash Drive, or DVD and just boot from that after installing the new SSD.
Which way is the best to install this SSD and how can I make sure the recovery partition is not lost from the stock HDD?
