Hi there. I have Asrock Z170 Extreme 4 motherboard. I decided to install Linux on my Seagate HDD, so i downloaded latest Mint ISO, created boot USB with Rufus, and after reloading the system, chose my boot USB in BIOS to load. So Mint installation menu appeared, i chose 'Install', and then i saw only black screen with blinking cursor on the top of it. I've been waiting about an hour, but nothing changed. I tried to install another distros - Ubuntu, Redhat, but in vain. Please help!

ya, I got Ubuntu reay to burn after my mint 17 deal but just never got around to it ? maybe the best thing at the moment with using mint ?

thing is should be just as easy and work out as the ones you say do ??

like this guy has it loaded on your board just had a sound issue ?/

sad thing is nothing today is as cut and dry as it once was anyway glad you got something to work out as you expected

good luck

I never liked the usb way , try to do the mint with the live dvd .. its a bit more cut and dry then setting up a usb and a bit more goof proof [lol right up my alley ]

see if something as this helps

https://www.servethehome.com/fix-blinking-cursor-black-screen-ubuntu-installation/

look at the uefi part I noticed that mint live dvd [17] shows up as 2 optical drives in the bios boot manager one shows as normal and one as uefi [ I only have one optical drive in my computer ]

thing I s with mint 15 and below I never had these issues but 17 was a challenge to use a windows [7} hard drive and a Linux hard drive and I have to unhook the sata cable from the windows drive to be able to boot to the Linux and with biuth drives hooked up the Linux hard drive does not show up in the boot manager to be selected as a boot option ?

like I said never had all this with 15 or below and don't yet know if any other distros are now doing the same I think I do see where win-10 don't like a 2ed os as Linux installed beside it

secure boot with 10??

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2901262/microsoft-tightens-windows-10s-secure-boot-screws-where-does-that-leave-linux.html

seeing I use 7 makes me wonder id Microsoft updated me some how to screw me over as well ??

heck burn a Ubuntu live dvd or something as well to test to see how any better it goes ?

like I said until I went up to 17 I never had any install issues or boot issues along side of windows like I said I reach in and un hook the windows drive and the Linux drive boot right up as normal and nothing is wrong

when the windows hard drive is hooked up its like the Linux driver is being blocked out shows in the bios but not in the boot order to be selected as a boot device un hook the windows drive and its right there ready to go ????? crazy

anyway using a live dvd iso and putting the optical as first boot device [or select it from the boot manager at post with F8 key] and should boot up to a desktop

You can download the Linux Mint operating system for free. It comes as an ISO file
which you need to burn to a blank DVD. The liveDVD is then bootable and provides a
fully-functional operating system which you can try without affecting your PC. In
layman's terms, when you put Linux Mint on a DVD and place it into your computer, you
can try it out while leaving your current system intact

Unfortunately installation from the DVD turned out impossible. The same stuff - blinking cursor above the black screen. It is strange, but i able to install openSuse and Debian even from USB. Well, i guess linux Mint is not for me. Thank everybody for help.
