How to install M.2 driver (do I have to?) when in the middle of Windows installation?

Hey there

So I installed M.2 Samsung 960 Evo, I think I saw it in BIOS somewhere. Started to install Windows and it says- "No Drive Found". It gives me an option to load the driver with media such as USB, DVD and so on. There is no included disks with the M.2 drive. Surely I can go and download the Evo 960 driver from Samsung, but is it what it wants? And where would it install it if there is no drive that it can recognize to write on? I would think- if it offers it, it knows how to load it but is it what it looking for- M.2 driver, or is it because I am installing Windows 8.0 and at that time there was no M.2? Did you have to do it for your M.2 drive? Thank you.

You would need the controller driver on a thumb drive to install onto your m.2 drive. It doesn't recognize the device your M.2 SSD is connected to hence it can't see it. You should be able to find it on your MB manufacturer's website or possibly the disk that came with your Motherboard.

Ok my bad. so looking at your board you can have the drive run in either PCI-E mode or SATA. Sata should be easier to work with the other will require you to use the NVMe Driver from samsung -> http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/product/consumer/960evo.html

Basically SATA mode uses a controller card to access the data on the disk the other PCI-E is more direct but poses installation issues needing you to install the driver from USB before installing the OS but might be faster.
