I've been told from some friends that there are ways to install windows on your new computer build without buying a new copy of windows, but I'm not sure at all how to do that.

I plan on building a new computer really soon, and I want to avoid dishing out $70-$100 on an OS when there are other ways to get it. If anyone knows how I would really appreciate it.

I do have an od Windows 7 Installation disc that came with my old laptop, which is currently not in use, maybe I can use that... not sure

Please help, Thanks

I will say this. You can reinstall windows using the dvd you have. Just dont enter a product key. It will prompt you for a month to buy the genuine software. After a month it becomes an annoyance as you dont get a background on the desktop nor access to any updates. My laptop has been this way for a month and I still have the functionality i need.

This is legal

This is rapidly descending into areas where someone will say something to get themselves banned.

@OP - Buy a copy of Windows, or use Linux. Or obtain a license from school or work. There are no 'free' versions of Windows.

Closing this before someone gets himself in trouble.
