How to install Windows on a new SSD and then format my old HDD

I'm buying my first SSD soon and plan on doing a clean install of Windows 10 on the SSD via USB stick. Then backing up all my irreplaceable files and wiping the HDD and has my OS currently on. I should add, that I want a fresh install of Windows 10, and I don't want to mirror my HDD onto the SSD. I was just looking for some advice to see if my method is the correct way to do this.

1. Backup my files that I want to keep, e.g. pictures/videos/documents (I'm pretty confident with this part as I do backups often anyway).

2. Download Windows 10 ISO file on to my USB flash drive (again, pretty confident on this part).

3. Shut down my PC and unplug my HDD and plug in the new SSD. Put in the USB flash drive and boot from USB/Hard disc.

4. Install Windows 10 and use the product key I currently use for my version of Windows.

5. Check everything is working with Windows upon first start up and make sure Windows boots from SSD.

6. Put my HDD back in and format it so the only OS I have is on the SSD. I've never actually formatted a drive before, so if someone could elaborate on this part, that would be great. I will still be using the drive, I just won't need anything on it and plan on just installing the bits I need.

7. Once that's all done, I'm guessing I can just start adding all my backed-up files back on to my HDD, and a few other programs and games back onto my SSD?

Thanks :)

Solution
You got everything right there.

As for #6 -
  • you go into Disk Management,
    delete all partitions on HDD,
    create one big partition and
    format it.
That's it.

Awesome, thanks for the help!
