Thanks for all the help guys. I'll look into all of these. I do have a question about the Scotch Brite scouring pads, though. This really looks like my best bet. If I put them by the case, I cant see how anything can get through at all. But they look so thick, would my pc really be safe blowing the air out with these pads on the outside of the case? Also, is this just for side vents or can I put it in the back of the case as well?

I bought some scouring pads, they look very thick, I don't know if much heat can go through it. I really don't know if its a good idea. However I did buy some swiffer pads and they look so thin, when I breathe on it I feel the air coming through on the other side onto my hand. These are great. I really think these will help a lot. Any comments?

Roaches hate fire, so burn them.

I tried this my self. First they scurry around a lot and then flip over and twitch alot... Then they stop moving, it's the damnedest thing. Still trying to figure out why they hate fire so much. >_<

Lol

Hmmm, seriously dude, someone needs to clean. I say it should be an entire family activity though, and not just on one person. I hate to say it, but before I moved down to Texas a couple years ago I lived in a similar situation while renting from some friends. The guy wouldn't clean up the house most of the time, and he even had his kid their on weekends and stuff. Weekends were even better since thats when the guys parents showed up to watch said kid. Me and the other guy that were renting rooms from him would at least try and clean and get the dishes done during the week, since clean dishes are nice to have for eating off of and such. But whenever the parents would show up they'd almost completely destroy anything we'd done to clean the place up. We're talkin people who can't understand the concept of using an ashtray for their cigarette butts, can't say how many times I went to wash a cup to find a butt in it. Don't know how many times I went to the kitchen to find the garbage can stacked a good 2 feet higher than the rim because they were too lazy to empty it. I'm just thankful that one thing we didn't seem to have there somehow in that situation was roaches, we'd get odd never before seen breeds of house centipedes though.

Now since I moved to Texas it's a different story, if you even let your cleaning go for a week or two you gotta watch out for em. The little pests are smart too, the few I've seen in my apartment will sit there and watch you, and they know when I grab the jug of home defense max to run like hell.. Kills the buggers within 5 mins if you get a direct hit on em.

As far as short time goes. Go buy a gallen jug of Ortho Home Defense Max, it's pretty to use, it comes with a sprayer attachment. Ventilate the room, and spray that around the perimeter, and around any doorways and windows. Also spray around or in any places where there may be holes or cracks in the walls or floor, such as floor heater vents. 95% of the time, they won't cross the area's where you sprayed, the other 5% of the time is usually the tree roaches that can fly, or some times in the area where I live for example you get those big palmento bugs(water roaches), those are a bit more resilient. And even those most of them that manage to walk across it end up dead anyway. Only other thing I can tell you, is that if your case is on the floor, find something to set it up on like a small bench or sturdy small table. Roaches like to get inside of computers and tv's and eat on the wiring and pcb's, as well as cause short circuits the computer is turned on with one in the psu. Be thankful you don't have fire ants though, they wreak real havoc on electronics, as well as people.

I Lived in New York City in the Housing Projects in Queens growing up, and those evil cralwers were Immune to just about EVERYTHING!!!

BUT THIS STUFF REALY WORKS GOOD:http://www.alwaysbrilliant.com/aa/aspx-products/1-834/2-55324/SC-FROOGLE/bb/Insecticide Chalk.htm or if you have a chinatown where you live ask a shopkeeper for Roachchalk or google it and get some.

Those critters ABSOLUTELY HATE IT. They avoide it like the plague.

Get that and some boric acid power http://www.alwaysbrilliant.com/aa/aspx-products/1-834/2-55324/SC-FROOGLE/bb/Insecticide Chalk.htm and like the guys said some roach motels and you will be ontop of this thing in about 4-6 months....

unless they are the nyc housing projects kind---then just give up and move---make sure you check every possable hidingspace in all your funiture and spray whatever you see, before you load it on the truck though or they will come back.

buy the fastest computer fans on the market so when the roaches crawl in they get there head choped off buy the fan and the light your computer on fire and watch them burn

eeeww i hate roaches i live in rochester, ny so i never seen one where i live. i would be completly grossed out and would keep a tourch around me all the time. i wouldnt be able to sleep knowing that they were all over my house

hahaah i laughed at the part saying they run away when you grab the spray.

But honestly if your living with cockroaches get those suckers out of there,it makes me shudder thinking about thats.

Okay, heres an idea that led to me thanks to you guys: What if i get those bug sticky trap carts, cut them up into lines, and paste them onto the sides of the case on the bottom? They wouldn't be able to get to the vents since they have to crawl up I think, and if they start crawling they'd get stuck to it. What's the dillyo? Sounds good to me.

Yeah Boric acid works very well. I had it really bad here couple years ago and did everything I could think of to get rid of them. Finally, was talking to an old guy one day and his wife and they said they didn't have a [live] roach in their home in 30 yrs.

They told me to make roach cookies. Just be forewarned they can kill anything including pets, kids etc. So you have to use a little care in where you put them.

Find some where that has powdered boric acid and buy 5 pounds of it, you may have to hunt a little while to find it. You won't get it at home depot, lowes etc.

Buy some sweetened condensed milk [couple cans or so.] also buy some rubber dishwashing gloves, dust mask, and a good sized piece of card board [you don't want to breathe in the boric acid.]

find an old plastic bowl that you can throw away later. Put on the gloves, mask. In a well ventilated area, pour a good amount of the boric acid in the bowl, then mix in the condensed milk in with it. Mix it up really well keep adding boic acid till the consistancy is like cookie dough.

Once you have it like that make a bunch of rolled up balls. Place them on the card board to harden. With in a couple days or less they should be hard enough to place around the house.

Place them in areas where pets / kids can't get to them and in places where roaches hide. Because it sounds like you have so many you will likely need some sticky traps too. You can get these at wal-mart for a few $$ get a bunch of them and place them around the house as well. Place both in the attic and all over everywhere... also place near entries to the house as well.

All in all it might cost you around $50 total to do all of this, but this is a long term fix. Once they are all dead they will not come back ever. Be patient, it takes time to rid them all... little by little they will be gone.

Everytime I see one in my house now they are already dead. I live in Texas and they can get to be the size of a small rat down here. :ouch:

Additionally these cookies will kill mice, rats, ants or any other kind of bug / pest except for maybe spiders... but spiders kill all the other kinds of bugs.

move out and leave the pc there as well. then sue your parents for inflicting that type of suffering on ya and use the judgement money to rent an apartment and............buy a new pc!

seriousley, no one should ever have to live under those conditions. it is time for you to think about changing (find another place to stay) those conditions! all tha luck in the world to ya dude.

Ok, I actually had this problem myself when I lived in this tent city in South Africa. We had a massive flood and had to move the government offices off-site next to a landfill. Those little f'ers would crawl all through my PC. Once the machine tried to boot from floppy but it was actually a German Brown in the drive. Imagine trying to turn the eject knob over and over again until the ah heck decided to crawl out toward my bologna and cheese!

I like the idea of light. You need to look into the hydroponic gro-light systems they make for desktop houseplants. You can place the light right over the intake vent, that way the roaches will run away from the light through your PS fan and get decapitated like Japanese kamakazis!

The boric acid is a bad idea. The action of the borate is delayed, so the little crawlers will gouge themselves on your bait and then later do a pop-rocks-and-coke inside your hard drive. Not a plus for your seek times.

We used Rhesus monkeys. They're ravenous! And they love roaches like Jr High kids love butterfingers. Just imagine a tent city is like the premier of Dark Knight and the roaches are like buttered popcorn! Crunch crunch! It works! And if you can get the monkeys used to your keyboard, they'll go ahead and search redtube for your !!pro_N for you! Nevermind the hurled monkey poop all over the case...

this is very strange indeed. might i suggest oc ur computer like hell so they wouldn't be able to live in ur pc.
best of luck with the roach problems.

Fair Warning: When I was a kid, i lived in a similar situation with roaches EVERYWHERE! So one day I saw one crawling around in microwave... hee hee hee.... I quickly grabbed a cup of water, put it in the microwave and turned that sob on high for about 5 min and watched to see if i could see it explode... It didn't. The damn thing LIVED through it!!! Then we had albino roaches. Yup, WHITE roaches! all kinds of mutated! they seriously mutated after that. I guess I had a female. Anyways. An overclocked hot pc might not do the trick. In addition, unless they are at ground zero, an American Roach will survive a nuclear holocaust! No BS. The radiation does not seem to affect them in quite the same way it does us. It just makes em mutate into albinos and other weird versions of the traditional American Roach. So BE CAREFUL with that! Oh, and have a nice day!
