Question How to know if my laptop needs motherboard replacement or not ?

Hello,

I have an old HP laptop with intel Gen4 CPU , and it stopped working altogether suddenly , nothing is working , no lights no fans , dead . I went to a local repair shop and they claimed the motherboard needs to be replaced and I am not convinced , I dont want to be ripped off by them . any ideas how to locate the problem ?

That will be close to imposible to diagnose without having the laptop to run tests.
It could be as simple as a burn capacitor, or as intricate as a dead CPU or chipset.
Either way, if the shop does not have a soldering station they will need to replace the motherboard.

If you do not trust the shop then take it somewhere else.

By the way replacing the motherboard on a laptop with a 4th Gen Intel CPU could cost as much or more than getting a similar unit used.
