Solution
CHANGE THE PSU TO A XFX 550 WATT 850 WATT IS EXTREME OVERKILL GTX 970 IS EXTREMLY POWER EFFICIENT ONLY 145 WATT TPD SO NEEDS A 450 - 500 WATT PSU.

YOU HAVE NOT MENTIONED THE RAM ANYWAYS YOU WILL NEED NO MORE THAN 8 GB OF RAM.

would a Corsair CX750 be better for this build?

Nope vs and cx series from corsair are tier 3 PSu not good for a gaming pc.

go with xfx, seasonic, rosewill capstone, corsair tx/ax/hx, evga b2 /g2 these are some great PSU to choose from and wattage wise you dont need more than 550 watt but if you want to SLI in future then get a EVGA G2 750 watt PSU.

Here is my build. this is you want it and a real budget. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/RWC3WZ just over $1000

wrong choice for the board you should go for z97 motherboard .
z87 would work but after a BIOS update not out of the BOX.

Get a WD blue for better performance and i think its 2 $ more expensive.

And change the PSU the CX series as i said is a poor quality PSU.

Whats the cheapest this build could be done?
