How to make a portable hard drive act as a flash drive for the computer

I need to make recovery image of the factory installed partition in my Laptop, which requires a 32gb of pendrive. I have a portable Hard Drivve me which i am ready to make as bootable for the recovery image, but for that the computer has to mark it as a removable media for the recovery software to accept it as valid, is there any way to do that?

a portable hard drive is a removable media. iam not sure what you are trying to do.
but i guess you better have a look at "YUMI" (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/yumi-multiboot-usb-creator/)

when i insert the hard drive, it comes in the hard drives section of my Laptop rather i want it to be recognized in the "devices with removable storage" section.
