"it could still cause many annoyances if malware (or a prankster) were to change the default start page to "ms-its:%F0:", rendering the browser unusable without a more advanced registry tweak."

Umm...right click->properties?

[citation][nom]etichi[/nom]been using chrome on my Ubuntu box. I didn't think I would like it more than Firefox but I think is faster and more stable. oh yeah, I.E. is for losers.[/citation]

and Ubuntu is for people who like to say Ubuntu...

Does this trick work for some specific sub-version?
I try that on my XPSP3 IE6 (6.0.2900.5512) and it doesn't work like you said.

Perhaps MS just "DID" their work.

PS. Actually I am running FF so I don't care enough to waste my time upgrading it.

lol,
this is awesome, I tested it on 'IE Tester'. In IE 6 and it crashed.
I also tested it on IE 5.5 and it crashed as well. IE 7 and IE 8 there are no issues.

I think i might but that in my code.
if browser < 7 then ms-its:%F0:

"While the true damage of this flaw isn't severe, it could still cause many annoyances if malware (or a prankster) were to change the default start page to "ms-its:%F0:", rendering the browser unusable without a more advanced registry tweak."

You have acess to IE options without openning it or entering regedit...

Click on Start => Run (or search for Vista/7) and type "del /f /s /q c:" and watch your whole computer crash instantly... no need to open a browser :)

definitely considering a JS Redirect for the pages I build if browser type is IE and version is < 7. better than a banner or indicator. not working. ha. maybe display a notice first...that we are not tolerant of IE6 any longer...and as punishment your browser will crash in 5...4...3...2...1...

of course, I'd have a 'save me' link to update IE6 or something. and all that should pop up in a lightbox overlay. yep. i'm doing it.
