How to make my cpu fail overclocking or help...

Recently I have been getting temps of 80 degrees or higher on prime 95 on my i74790k but when it said it failed to overclock it didn't break out of the 60s. My motherboard is Asus z97-a 3.1 and I've never tried to overclock my cpu so I set everything to default but my prime 95 temps are still up to high 70s... I just want to get the temps from when the "overclock failed"

If Prime95 28.5, then it's normal; however it shouldn't crash the system. I've had that "overclock failed" message at POST on most Asus motherboards that I owned; just reload your overclock profile again until the next time it occurs.

Prime 95 26.6 and I've never tried overclocking

If using the stock cooler, then the temperatures are normal. It will throttle if it gets close to 100°C, e.g., while running Prime95 28.5.

There's nothing you can do about the failed overclock; reapply your saved profile.

Is the ambient temperature higher than 22-23°C? I would expect the delta to be about 50°C, but you've got nothing to worry about.

Your CPU temperature is a couple degrees warmer than expected, but you may not be using a case that offers optimal cooling. There are several factors that affect cooling.
