How to make PC internet connection even better?

Hi, I have U-Verse with a motorola nvg510 modem. I have a gaming PC that uses a TL-WN822N Wireless N300 High Gain USB Adapter to make it wireless, and the thing is, that the modem is across the house. My internet speed on my PC is not that great, it would create random ping and lag spikes and sometimes could be frustrating to play games. I would rather a direct Ethernet cable connection to my modem, but the modem is too far for that.

My question, is it possible to just buy a router and just set it near my Gaming PC and run an Ethernet cable to it for internet? and then the router would be somehow connected to the modem, so I'll have both a modem and a router in use?

If it is, how would I go about doing that? Is it a good idea?

Solution
Current crappy connection
Modem----------------------------------------------WiFi PC

Equally crappy connection
Modem----------------------------------------------router-WiFi PC

The router will see exactly the same bad connection as you do now.

Better solution
Modem-----------router or repeater-----------------WiFi PC

Put the repeater device midway between the end points.

Best solution
Modem-----------Cat5e cable--------PC

The only way that I could follow on your "best solution option" would be just moving the modem next to my gaming PC. But the reason why my modem is across the house is because it is set up to the Zmodo DVR surveillance system, ( so that I could view my house cameras on my phone, my DVR has to be directly conncected to the modem via ethernet cable).

I did some research and found a thread that posed my problem.

His solution was this
I used a product from Asoka called PlugLink. I have two of them. One plugs into the DVR unit (via Cat-5) and the 2nd one plugs into the Router. Both Pluglinks must be plugged into a power socket. If I'm not mistaken they transmit regular ethernet packets across you electrical wiring. So from a DVR perspective it thinks it is connected directly to the DVR via a Cat-5 cable. It works beautifully.....no problems. If you want to do "port forwarding" on your router when you log into you'll see one device that has a really odd IP address....we'll that is the Pluglink...everything worked beautifully...even the port forwarding was no problem

Do you think something like that could fix my problem? With using a product such as this?

Possibly, yes. Powerline ethernet might work. It depends a lot on your specific house wiring, though. And no way to know until you try it. The newer the house, the better.

How do you like that ZModo camera setup? I have a similar Lorex system.
