How to NOT install uTorrent on C: Drive?

So i have an SSD (c: drive) and an HDD (f: drive). When i go through the installation. it doesn't let me chose where to install it. How can I either install it on the SSD and move it, or install it at a different location?

Hi,

Their should be an advance installation option, if you choose this option, it will ask you where you want to install it.

Latest version dont provide way to install to alternate location , so the solution is


Install the Utorrent with required options

It will be installed to c:\program files\Utorrent

CUT the folder and Paste it to required folder and create a shortcut to Desktop

I can't see an easy option. However, it's probably <5MiB after installation.

Changing your default download destination is going to make significantly more difference to your space.

The problem is, it make alot of small writes to a hard drive which isnt good for an SSD

It is not installed in program files. It is in C:\Users\Anoori9000\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent

For modern SSDs, doesn't matter at all. That's what wear levelling is for.

Also, I think you'll find those writes (and I doubt there's all that many of them) are in the history/config, rather than the program itself. Program itself is almost entirely read-only for most stuff.

So your telling me that an 840 evo 120gb wont get ruined or shorten its life span if i have utorrent on it.

I did some looking and i change all the download saves and finished downloads to the F; drive. So that i guess is ok.

I haven't installed this in a LONG time, so I put it on this spare laptop just to see. This appears to be one of the few recent applications that does not allow the choice of where to install.

But....the install size is only around 5mb.
And if you tell it to save those torrents elsewhere, writing excessively to the SSD is not an issue.

I have it on my 128GB Kingston SSD (18 months old) and there is no problem. I don't do that a whole lot, though.

Such 'stories' are usually hearsay.

Tell it to save the torrents on your F drive. The client living on the C is fine.
