How to physically plug in a spdif connector

Never used one before! It obviously pushes in one way only. But how do you make it stay in? Do you need to push hard until it clicks? Do you need to rotate it 90 degrees? I don't want to break anything!

Should just be straight in..... I think it clicks, yes. Been a while.

Stupid me! A bit more investigation and I realised that there is a tiny plastic cap to be removed. All now working perfectly

Older gear used a removable plug to keep dust out, Newer gear has a little dust cover that retracts when you push in the connector.
Since optical has no electrical contacts the connector just need to stay in place rather than be really tight to work well.
