So i just bought Sandisk Ultra dual USB drive 32 GB 3.0 , because i have lost another flash drive last time. Now how do i protect it from someone to open it and bringing it back to me.At first i thought i can just rename my flash drive to my phone number, but people can just rename it and take it.... if i Use password like bitlocker for example , the flash drive's name before the password is inputted is only showing the directory of the drive (F , G , H , etc) and for it to show the renamed one you need to input the password first AND you can format the drive...

so how do i password protect my flash drive and still be able to use it but it cant be formatted ? while still showing the renamed flash drive for people to see my phone number

Solution
You can only prevent someone reading the contents - encryption.
You can't prevent them from formatting it, or stealing it.

Best solution - Don't rely on easily lost/stolen/corrupted USB sticks for your data.

oh i see , but i also need the OTG for me to directly use it and i have 32 gb of storage so i could transfer bigger files... im a lil bit confused about what USAFret said on the best solution not to rely on easily lost/stolen/corrupted , can u explain it?

one more , can bitlocker encryption opened on macOS and others ?

A USB stick is easily lost, broken, stolen.
Once it is no longer in your possession, all bets are off.

The only thing you can prevent is someone else reading the contents. Encrypt the data.
This does NOT prevent them formatting it.

oh i see... thanks
