Question How to put external HDDs to sleep

Hello:

I have four HDDs in a dock (SABRENT U3B4), and the two oldest (250 GB and 500 GB) vibrates more and are quite hot (at least 100 degrees F; the two newer HDDs – 2 GB – vibrate less and are much cooler). I have Windows 10, v 1909, 64-bit, and I have set HDD to sleep after 10 minutes. However, while it might affect my internal HDD, it does not seem to affect the external ones.

I do not have a defrag app, but I now seem to remember that Windows has its own defrag program. Might it be the culprit?

What can I do to get the external HDDs to go to sleep?

It's not clear what you mean when talking about "vibrations". Are you refering to disk seek noise or general vibration when disk spin but otherwise idle ?
