How to recover data from corrupted WD external hardisk

Hi...

I have Western Digital Passport 1 TB external Hard disk. It has got corrupted. When I connect to my Window 7 machine, my external hard disk rotates but my machine does not recognize it.I have checked External hard disk with other working cable as well but still it is not working . I have tried to recover data with Hiren boot cd ,. On hiren boot machine it is recognizing the disk. I can copy some data in form of dd format with data rescue but not able to recover data with this DD format file. I have used different softwares to recover dd file but all are giving error. Please suggest how can i recover my data.

Have you removed the drive from the enclosure and tried to run it in your PC?

Hi there rajmehra300,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your drive. 🙁
BadActor has a point over there, the HDD should be in it's original enclosure as the device is hardware encrypted.
Apart from that, it seems that you will need to contact a data recovery company in case the data stored on the drive is really important. Your other option would be to try using some other data recovery tools. Yet, it seems that they are not working on the drive.
Is the drive under warranty? In case it is, you can contact either the place you got it from or WD's Support and eventually RMA the drive.

I am not able to take out from its enclosure. Any suggestion how yo do that?

The WD rep above suggested that may not be a good idea if you have a newer drive. I have done it in the past on older SATA based drives and I had nothing to lose. Apparently, it doesn't work with newer USB drives?
