Hey guys,

so we are using an AVAGO MegaRAID SAS 9361-8i Controller in our server enviroment. Everything works fine. Now we want to exchange 2 existing HDDs with 2 new, faster ones. The problem is; I have read that you need to remove the HDD's existing disk signature if you want to use them later in a new enviroment/system. If you do not remove the signature, the HDDs won't be recognized, because they've been configured in a RAID and thus have received a special signature.

My boss told me that there should be an option in the MegaRAID software, but I couldn't find one so far.

Any advice?

Best regards,

I believe what you are referring to is the disks meta data. It contains this type of information.

I havn't used MegaRaid in while but I'm pretty sure there is an option there too wipe metadata off a disk. (just make sure not to do it on the wrong drive and wipe your production raid...)

Another option would be to plug the drive to an via usb adaptor to another system and running a wipe utility.

Process would be similar to this, but instead of repair it, you are removing it etc...
