I'm trying to remove the PSU on a Dell Dimension 1900. The 24 pin motherboard power connection has a ribbon cable connector in the way, which includes a vertical plastic loop attached to each end that looks as if it is for pulling the ribbon cable out. I have tried pulling on it firmly but it doesn't budge I don't want to break anything. Any suggestions. Is it OK to use WD40?

No WD 40.

Be sure that the system is cool before attempting to remove the connector.

Look for a small hook on the connector that is securing the connector to the socket. May not seem like much but the hook can be quite a problem sometimes.

May appear free but is actually not.

Use a bright flashlight to get a good look.

Double check that the hook is "unhooked". Use a finger nail. Nothing metal and be sure power is off and the system unplugged.

Try gentle rocking and wiggling movements on the body of the connector as you pull on the connector.
