Hello

I have migrated my excel software from my Windows 7 PC to a Windows 11 PC. Two weeks into and everything ok. All my vba was working and my addin (structuralVBA.xlam) was ok. Then I imported a workbook from my archive and that workbook referenced the same add-in but at a different location. As the add-in was at that location, I assume, excel tried to open two add-ins with the same name. I deleted the archived add-in, broke the links and pointed everything to the correct add-in.

Fixed. Nope. Everytime I try to run a macro, I get a warning, part of which informs me that I have deleted the add-in but allows me to go much further. Tried renaming the add-in and then delete the old add-in links. Nope again.

How do I clear up this problem please. I am unable to use excel and am now working on my Windows 7 PC again.

I am tempted to remove all the excel materials, remove excel and start again but I can assume that this will not fix the problem. Bet the Registry comes into it.

Regards Dan

EDIT: I followed Microsoft advice and deleted the Cache and still no Joy. Has started to tell me that I cannot open two workbooks of the same name ?

This:

"I get a warning, part of which informs me that I have deleted the add-in but allows me to go much further. "

I do not understand "allows me to go much further".

Are you able to open and edit the .xlam file?

How far could you originally get and what more is being done when it all goes "further"?

Are you able to step through the macro and watch what happens with each action.

What are the full pathnames of each workbook?

[Note: do stay out of the registry. Registry edits are a last resort and should be done only after a full system backup and a backup of the registry itself.]

Lastly: you mentioned "archive". And also Windows 7.

FYI:

https://www.lifewire.com/xlam-file-...opened,Office Compatibility Pack is installed.

Note the reference to the Office Compatiblity Pack....

Thanks for the reply.

I tracked the problem down to Excel15.xlb In the AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/Excel folder. I deleted this file, rebooted and the problem has been sorted.

Who wants to claim the answered tag ?
