When you first start your game, the multitool is one of your only working systems that isn't broken. You will change that pretty quickly once you get down to mining the resources you need to fix every other component you have though, as mining will drain the power supply of your multi tool. So here is how you will recharge this valuable system.
Step 1)Repair your scanner.
If you are just starting out then your scanner is broken. Fix that first and it will make finding the resources to keep your multi tool charged much easier. Check out my guide here on how to fix this vital tool.
Step 2)Mine some plutonium crystals.
Now that your scanner is up and running you'll be able to find these a bit easier, but they are shown as red crystal formations and are pretty common in the game.
Step 3)Charge up your multitool.
Open your inventory and switch it from your suit or ship inventory over to your multi tool inventory. With the multitool selected you'll be given the option to recharge this, and it will then ask what you want to recharge it with. Plutonium is the easiest resource to find that can recharge this so go ahead and use that to keep this tool fully charged.
You'll be using your multitool a lot to survive on the various planets found in no man's sky, so it's a good idea to keep some of that plutonium in your inventory at all times so you always have something to recharge it with. It works well for recharging you exosuit too!
