[SOLVED] How to replace CPU Fan properly?

Forgive me if this is in the wrong section. Simply put, I need to remove my old CPU Fan Cooler and replace it with another one. I assume I need to clean of the old thermal paste, and the one I got I'm pretty sure it comes with thermal paste already. I'm afraid if I clean the CPU Processor with it attached on the motherboard it might damage it because of the pressure I will put on it.

Can I just clean off the thermal paste off the CPU processor or should I take out the CPU Processor and clean it? What would be the safest way?

Also is it safe to use paper towels to wipe off the thermal paste and then use alcohol to clean it? Thank you very much.

Solution
You can clean the CPU in, just don't apply that much pressure, and it should take much pressure anyway.

Use a lint free cloth, coffee filter works best and some 95-99% Isopropyl rubbing Alcohol and it should come off pretty easily. Let it evaporate off and put the new cooler on.
