In No Man's Sky you can scan and catalogue everything on a planet in order to earn some extra credits. Here's how.
Step 1)Find something you haven't looked at yet.
Explore the planet and find everything possible, if it's your first time seeing it, you can most likely scan it to discover it and earn some credits in the process.
Step 2)Scan everything.
Once you've found it, hold the scan button while looking at it until it registers as being fully scanned and logged into the system. You will receive some credits at this time, and if you manage to catalogue everything on the planet there will be a large credit reward for this.
Step 3)Name your discoveries.
Access the star systems you've discovered from the menu and you can upload your discoveries for extra credits, and also rename them to whatever you would like, within reason, at this screen. Renaming them will give extra credits and they'll be uploaded as well.
