How to set up & watch DVDs without using aerial signal??

I can get up the menu on my TCL TV which is connected to a LG DVD player but every time I get up the menu or anything it switches really quickly back to a black screen saying No Signal. I have even tried changing DVD players but still the same thing happens. No Signal. This TV and player are in a different room so nowhere near a aerial outlet. I don't need this TV for watching TV, just to watch DVDs and nothing else.
I did not think one needed to be connected to a aerial to just watch DVDs. I have ordered the remotes for both, is that the problem?.

Probably needs the Aerial for bluetooth/wireless connection

I connected the Green Blue and Red wires and it goes WOOHOO, thankyou for replying Mark
