Greetings all,

I have an old Dell XPS 600. It had 3 HDD configured in RAID5. A few days ago, the motherboard stopped working and after taking it apart I can see where a couple capacitors are burnt up. I am planning on buying a replacement motherboard, but am afraid that once I install the new board I might damage the data on the drives if I don't set the RAID back up properly. Can anyone give me an idea of how I should go about getting this thing setup correctly? If I remember correctly, the whole thing was configured through the on-board RAID controller.

I actually have another XPS 600 MB coming in the mail. I should have been more specific. My question is, with an identical MB, is there anything I need to make sure to do to get the RAID going again? I noted which sata ports each drive was plugged into.. anything bios side needs done aside from setting the new BIOS to raid 5?

make sure the drives are connected to the correct ports they came out of on the old board
and make sure the BIOS is set to RAID/Autodetect ( i think its that for the raid mode in dells or something) the same as your old board and you should be good.

I would set the mode in the bios prior to installing the drives as well

Thanks for the reply! I'll let you know how it turns out... **crosses fingers**
