Hi there,

I would like to run 2 x Nvidia 680 GTX graphics cards on my Asus P8z77-V Pro (I currently just have 1 card running) and wondered if someone could quickly describe what I need to do in order to achieve this?

I've never done this before so please talk in words of one syllable! 🙂

My questions are things like...
1) Does it matter which slots the cards go into?
2) Do I need to physically link the cards together somehow?
3) Do I need to flick a switch or set a jumper on the motherboard to let it know that I'm running in SLI ?
4) Do I have to do anything in the software / BIOS / Nvidia control panel etc in order to tell it that I have two cards in SLI ?

Basically if someone could just list the steps involved then that would be fantastic.

Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Cheers

John 🙂

Solution
Your mobo should have 4 PCIex16 slots, use the 2 nearest to proc.
1. Power off your rig, plug your second GPU, connect all the needed power cable, connect the SLI jumper/bridge, connect the cable to monitor from the GPU nearest to the proc.
Note: you should usually already have the SLI bridge as you received your GPU, it is in the box.
2. Power on, in Windows, go to nVidia control panel and activate SLI.
Nothing more..unless I missed something here.

well you do have 2 PCI 3.0 express slots (the first 2) and you will need a SLI bridge witch should of came with the motherboard, but i am 100% sure if it did come with the motherboard it's not the long one since you will be needing the long one. here is a link.

Just make sure your power supply has enough connecters for both cards. and it really should be a 650W or more. what power supply do you have?

Place the cards in the slots and hook up the bridge and start the computer. you should be fine and the bios should pick them both up. Start gaming and see if you have any problems then come back and post again if you have a problem

1. P8z77-V Pro is capable of Quad-SLI according to the datasheet, this means he has 4 PCIe x16 slots but only 3x PCIe 3.0. Since he needs only 2, 3 or 4 does not make a difference anymore.
2. At best use the first 2 PCIe x16 nearest to processor. These are usually 2 of the 3 PCIe 3.0 slots.

3. The SLI bridge should be already available either from the mobo or from the GPUs.
If it is not long enough, you can grab longer ones from online stores.

4. BIOS should recognize the 2 GPUs without any problems but you must, I repeat, you must activate SLI from nVidia control panel.
If it is activated automatically, just open the nVidia control panel just to be sure.

5. Yeah, I forgot about the PSU, I hope you have enough power for the 2 GPUs.
