Please see illustration. I'll like to sort the rows according to the year I enter... how can I do that?
I made wrong selection. The upper-most YEAR is a label, which shouldn't be sorted.

Can you post another picture and show what area you want to sort?
The columns to the right of the blue square seem to be organized horizontally but you want to sort based on vertical data.

don't worry about columns on the left or right, I just want to sort the rows so that i.e. it starts with the oldest year on the top.... i.e. 2014

items on either side are moved at the same time, items on a particular row is not changed. It's openoffice
You must select all the data you're supposed to include in the sorting. Then you get a dialog . . . Forget it I think I know what the issue may be.

It may be that you don't have the correct sort-button available. In Libre ffice and Open Office, there are 3 separate sort buttons, you may happen to see only one or two of
  • Sort Ascending: sort criteria without any dialog box, assume first column are sort key 1.
  • Sort Descending: Same as above but biggest values first.
  • Sort (icon with two vertical arrows in opposite direction): This is the one that pops up a sort dialogue where you can specify the sort criteria. I.e this is the one you want to use here because you want to sort by something else than first coloumn.

To make the Sort button visible, do this (works in Libre Office, be aware ic may be slightly different in Open Office)
  • Right click on the toolbar where your Sort Ascending button are located. This brings up a menu of many functions.
  • Hover the mouse over the list item "Visible buttons" to get another sub menu.
  • Select the one labeled "Sort".
If you want, you can disable/hide the buttons of "Sort ascending" and "Sort Descending" if you don't use those. I've choosed to do so because I prefer having full control over sort criteria even if I'm to sort on first column.

Hope this helps.
