How to tell if components are compatable

How do you tell if components are compatable with each other?(and I mean every component...CPU, RAM, etc.)

I just want to know for future reference.

check the spec on the manufacturer website.

If you want to make it simple, use PCPartPicker: http://pcpartpicker.com/
All you need to do is make sure that the PSU is big enough, that the motherboard and CPU use the same socket, and that the RAM is the same DDR version that the motherboard uses.
