How to tell if your video card is dying on your mac

Hello,

My wife's powerbook PowerPC G4 mac is experiencing wierd stuff on her screen. The colors are off and their are pixelated verticle lines on the screen.

Does this mean the video card is dying?

It could be the graphics chip going out or most likely, it is the inverter going out (generally common place in older laptops).
