Just built and setup my PC but my BIOS is out of date and I can't seem to find a straightforward explanation on how to update it. My manual is saying to instal the USB BIOS Flashback Wizard but I cannot find it on the support disk and the ASUS website only has the Bupdater Utility V1.30 for flash BIOS under DOS. (are they the same?)

I have the Z87-PRO-ASUS-1602.CAP file on my USB stick. Do I just power off my system stick the USB into the EZ Flash USB port and hold down the BIOS_FLBK button for 3 seconds?

Solution
TL;DR I still would like an answer if you please, reasons below.

I wanted to update the BIOS because I was having connectivity issues with my"Megalodon – Virtual 7.1 Surround Sound USB Gaming Headset" and I believe the updated BIOS description said "BIOS 1504 Enhance compatibility with some USB device." so I thought perhaps that would fix my issue with the USB headphones. Turns out Razer is s#&t and they do not offer a firmware version for Windows 8 effectively making my 100+ dollar headphones unusable, Razer Megalodon headphones are still s%&t with Windows 8.1. Don't buy them.

Anyhow, I figured out how to update the BIOS and did it but I have forgotten and now my computer will turn it self on from a complete shutdown...
Updating a Bios often leads to more features and a more stable system. There are reasons that the manufacturers go to the trouble of offering them and creating sites for that purpose.

With that said, I just installed the same Asus z87 MoBo in a new build. Have not done 1st boot yet, but am wondering the same thing. The instructions are not clear...at least for noobs like me. But, according to the manual, it is supposed to be a simple & easy process. The latest update for this board is 1707 and if you read the NewEgg reviews, there's at least one review that stated updating to 1707 made everything a lot better and solved his problems.

So...someone please help us.

(I don't want lights; flashing or not.)

After looking again they now have released further BIOS updates which support 4th Gen processors... Why the hell is a Motherboard which is socketed for an 1150 4th generation processor releasing BIOS updates for 4th gen support half a year later? Anyways sorry for the rant, any suggestions?

Solution
I would like to know for solution choosing if an answer has been provided, you basically answered it however - cpc makes a great point. I just got a z87 Pro myself and am about to attempt online update through their app (unlike gigabyte asus works well). for now I will choose CPC's answer until later confirmation

Hello,

To turn off the wake, you need to turn off "wake on LAN" feature in the BIOS. You can also Disable Power on by PCIE/PCI. Though I'm not sure how it powers on from complete shutdown, I've not experienced that myself. I have experienced the power returning from a hibernate state when wake on lan was enabled. Are you sure you're shutting down completely and not instead going into hibernate? Also did you update the BIOS to v 1802? Finally, I'm not sure how you figured out how to update the BIOS, but if you install the AI Suite 3, you can update the BIOS through that utility at the OS level so you don't have to mess with the BIOS on boot.

I hope this helps!
