i just want to know how to update my firmware ? and where can i download this firmware ( i have no idea what firmware is but everyone say i should update my firmware )

Harddrive rarely have firmware updates. Solid state drives do sometimes, but a regular hard drive, no, you're fine.

everyone on the review tab are saying i have to update the firmware probably because the original firmware has some kind of problem

maybe you should return it and get something that don't need to update the firmware.

I have had Seagate HDD for years and have never had any problems nor have I had to update the firmware on any of them. I have 12tb's of Seagate HDD right now in my i5 rig and they all run with no problems.

I looked at the 50 most recent reviews. Not one suggested updating the firmware.

If you have a problem with the drive check to see if an available firmware fixes the problem, or return the drive under warranty.
I would not worry about it .

All new drives will come with current firmware.
You can check to see if there is an update more current than what you have.
If there is, only install it if you are having a problem that it fixes.

First, I have the same drive as you do which I bought in August. I checked my firmware yesterday by the following method and the Seagate website informed me that my HDD was up to date and no FW update was needed.

So, to check if you need a FW update, you'll need your HDD's model and serial number. If you already have this info, skip on down to the next paragraph. If not, go to this page and D/L and install "Seatools for Windows" on your computer containing the Seagate HDD. http://www.seagate.com/support/downloads/item/seatools-win-master/ Run the program and the second screen, after the legal page, will give you your mod. # and S/N. KEEP THAT PAGE OPEN!

Next, go to the Seagate D/L center for your HDD by putting you mod. # and S/N into this page: https://apps1.seagate.com/downloads/request.html The next page will be a list of downloads for YOUR HDD and one of them is the FW. See what it says about your FW status and act accordingly.

What is the existing firmware version? CC4x, CC9x, or something else? This should be printed on the drive's label. SeaTools should also report it.

What is the full model number, eg ST1000DM003-9YN162 or ST1000DM003-1CH162?

Which firmware update did you use?

Can you show us a photo of the broken PCB? Sometimes there is an easy fix.
