[citation][nom]spanspace[/nom]Sadly I will be with Vista for awhile. Windows 7 cost too much for Ultimate which is what I need to do an upgrade.[/citation]

I checked out the professional version of windows 7. Not sure what the cost difference is but seems that all the features i'd want are in the pro version.

@jimmysmitty

you are dead wrong about that

Nvidia was the first to support DirectX 10 >>>>> Geforce 8
You are also wrong, Nvidia NEVER made the original DX10 specs, because of this MS had to drop some key requirements(they made them optional) rather then have one company without any DX 10 cards. DX 10.1 is actually what DX 10 was spec'd to be. The was more a case of NV actually forcing one of the most innovative features to hardly see the light of day and then paying many game devs to not use it. They way its meant to be played has its costs sometimes, Check out how assassins creed was patched to remove the 10.1 features since it was performing better on ATI hardware(many games would perform better with the "extra" features of 10.1, imagine if all games had it). This is a fact. For the record for my DX 10 card, i DID get an 8800GTX, so no brand loyalty here.

I followed all in the instructions and Windows Update still does not show the "Platform Update for Windows Vista", no matter how many restarts or scrpits runs i try.

When you open windows update, it will say no updates, tell it to check for updates then it will find it.

Click that then it should show up.

Vista and DX11 my be my only way. AMD has no Raid Drivers for Windows 7. I use RAID 1. I am unable to update to Windows 7, or fresh install until there is a driver.

I am wondering to whom this article will matter? As you say, as of right now VERY few people have DX11 hardware and almost NO games support it. Microsoft will surely release the Platform Update long before DX11 has any significant market presence.

Still, its a nice trick.. though maybe could have been presented as a general way to install Microsoft's beta updates instead of a way to install DX11.

I finally managed to install KB971644 - the plataform update for Vista x64, AFTER i updated to service pack 2- LOL! The point is that Windows update does NOT believes that service pack 2 was an important upgrade for my machine! LOL! Now my problem is taht i am stuck with DxDiag 6.00,6001.18000 showing Directx 10, but the screeshot here that shows DirectX 11 uses DxDiag 7.00.6002.18000, and this DxDiag versionj looks like a SP2 versios since it uses "6002". Where can i find the "new" DxDiag on SP2?

These Raid Drivers are from April of this year. It will be another day or so before I try again, as the initial excitement has gone. The posting says Oct. 22, 2009, this does not appear correct.
