How to us an SBG6580 as a router not a modem/ router

Hey guys, networking noob here, I'm wondering if there is a way to use a Motorola SURFboard SBG6580 as a router for a new WiFi network from a router in another building. The Ethernet is already run to the other building I just don't know how to set it up or if it is possible to do this. Thanks in advance!

The set up would be as follows Coax-> modem-> router-> Surfboard via Ethernet.

If you model is like this one http://www.motorolasbg6580guide.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/instal-your6580.png well I am not sure, since it doesnt have a LAN for Internet, I am not sure if the switch port will do but you can always try, just enter to the configuration and see if you can set up the interface to handle the conection and give wifi,

This is what I am thinking as well. I dug around in the configuration and I wasn't really able to find too much. So hopefully someone has some insight for us. I'm just not experienced enough with network hardware. Thank you for the quick reply mate!

That thing is a modem and router in one, why not replace your modem and router with that, then use your router as the extender?

this would be a good option if I was the resident of both buildings my neighbors allow me to use their internet so trading one out for the other isn't an option unfortunately.

If neither of you mind to be on the same subnet, turn it into an Access Point like SO.
