i assume its not a cable problem - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...ech-z506/4130a0cd-b5e0-44ce-9f49-b367a319f229

is it the outputs?
I spent ages trying to fix this same issue and finally came upon a solution which worked for me. I did have the 2 front speakers working but that was all.

I finally found that the analogue inputs in the back panel had been re-assigned for other functions (eg. microphone input in lieu of centre speaker output)

You can determine how these are assigned by opening the Realtek HD Audio Manager and hovering your mouse over each of the input jack icons.
If you right click on each of these you can reselect the task each performs.

The source needs to be 5.1 before you get surround so are you sure its not a stereo signal?

I don't have these speakers but the Z906 instead, there is a trick with its controller that the only way to get 5.1 is have no lights showing under the stereo header on control box. I see yours doesn't have a control box so there goes that idea :)

The cables in the back say c/Sub and rear and they do work during the sound tests only. I went into settings and put 5.1 but still doesn’t work. My computer also doesn’t have Realtek HD audio manager.
