I've recently got an Asus GTX 970 and it needs an auxiliary 8-pin straight from the PSU, but my PSU doesn't have an 8-pin, it only has a 6-pin. So I went down to the local store and got an adaptor from Molex to 8-pin, but it's a weird one, for me at least.
It has 2 ends with 3 pins that go into a 4-pin Molex and an 8-pin end. So there's 2 sets of 6 wires going into the 8-pin end making it a 6-pin, so 2 pins are actually empty, you can see through them.
Would this work on my GPU that needs a fully working 8-pin or will it fry everything?
If it would actually work, what's the principle around it? I would really like to understand the concept of an 8-pin that's effectively a 6-pin.
