hey guys! I was wanting to upgrade my amd motherboard and cpu to a intel motherboard and cpu. I read a thread that when you upgrade your motherboard or cpu from a brand to another, it can cause your windows to not boot up since it won't have matching drivers, and can make you re-install you windows. I have no budget to buying another windows and my pc doesn't have a dvd drive. So how can I change my motherboard without screwing up all my files I have now?

Solution
He's talking about tracking purchase history, and yes, if you order as a guest on newegg it will not show up in your purchase history later. Believe me, I've done it by accident and then couldn't find it later, nor could I find the receipt to use the order number. Couldn't verify my purchase and couldn't warrant the item.

Finally did track it down via my credit card company but it was a major PITA so if you can order from a logged in account it's much better.

how would i wipe it?

Actually, it's not a bad idea to post your intended parts list. More often than not there is something that could be done better. Sometimes even for less money.

AND, unlike Colif's instructions on how to deal with wiping the drives, I think it's a much better idea to wait to do that until AFTER you've either cloned or done a clean install to the new drive and verified that everything is working ok first. And then wait a few days to be absolutely sure there are no issues with the hardware.

That way if there is any kind of problem with the installation or anything else, OR if the new drive suddenly fails on the second day, you can always put the old drive back in along with your other hardware so you are not without a system the whole time you are waiting to get the hardware replaced or sort the problem out.

It's really great to install new hardware, do a fresh installation on a new drive, wipe the OS off the old drive and then realize something is screwed up and now you have NO functional operating system on any drive.

Of course, that's only if you're planning on installing to a new drive, not if you're planning to do a clean install on the same drive the OS is currently on. If that's the case, then his instructions are fine.

Ok, the parts I'm getting is a

My budget is around $200 so.

Are the store links reliable? I'm still a kid (above 13) and I'm having my mom use her credit card so I don't really want to scare her. (obviously my money tho)

do I have to make an account when checking out on B&H?

Get it from newegg then: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117743&ignorebbr=1&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-PCPartPicker,%20LLC-_-na-_-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

two from newegg, create an account and will be easier to track :)

so if i go as guest, than I have no way of tracking?

I would like to use a dual channel ram if I can. But would dual channel make a difference?

its funny to see my instructions being posted like that. I tend to personalise them to the situation so that one description isn't used for everything... you are correct in everything else you said though :)
