2000s: Windows Media Encoder/Windows Movie Maker works just fine without a single crash, renders and exports just fine, no lag no slow no freezing, maybe a second or two.

2020s: Microsoft Clipchamp literal adware in mask of video editor. Needs login to use it. Shiny iphone'ish garbage. Curved corners. Less functions, less options, no descriptions. Audio sync issues, fade in out breaks the sound entirely. Importing raw file takes forever to load. Needs compression process to load into timeline.

What happened?

2000s no one had internet no way, and no reason, to have ads...
2020s everybody has internet and e-banking a lot of reason to have ads and super easy to implement.

Also you probably use a video format that isn't the best for editing.

Also also, avidemux.
Or if you want to be really fancy kdenlive.

There are so many standalone completely free video editors out there that there is no reason to use the MS tools.
